 Tgħanniqa Voluntary Work
 Bio Note:

We are a group of volunteers who offer our time, energy and ideas to help around 20 children/youth, most of whom come from a social and financial disadvantaged background who make use of the Non-Governmental Organisation Tgħanniqa (VO/0423) situated in Birgu.

This is achieved by providing an afternoon community school, twice a week, all year round for the past eleven years. We believe that all children have the right to proper education and thus, we organise different interactive educational sessions through which we can achieve our objective. The organisation emphasises upon creating an environment which promotes to our service users a sense of belonging, whereby encouraging them to interact with volunteers (most of whom are youth), to create friendly relationships between the service-users and the volunteers.

Tgħanniqa also seeks to empower citizens to start becoming community leaders themselves. This is done by providing training to our volunteers in various disciplines such as administration and also training related to working in close relation to kids/youth. Tgħanniqa is a registered Non-Governmental Organisation with the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector and with AÄ¡enzija Å»għażagħ. It is also a member of the Forum tal-Kommunita Bormliża. Moreover, in 2012, Tgħanniqa  also placed third in ‘’Il-Premju tal-President għall-Volontarjat’’

The Siggiewi Scout Group had been primarily established back in Spring of 1935. However, during and after the war, the Scout Movement began to wane, and in the 50’s the group was disbanded. Happily, after almost half a century, interest in the movement was revived and the Siggiewi Scout Group was reformed in June 1998. The group continued to grow and prosper ever since.

The Siggiewi Scout Group forms part of the Scout Association of Malta together with 39 other groups. Currently the group is comprised of approximately 60 members. It is a co-educational voluntary group that strives to help and teach, children and adolescents of all ages, what the founder of the Scouting Movement, Lord Baden Powell taught one hundred years ago.

Last but not least, the main aim of the Siggiewi Scout Group is to increasingly reflect the rich diversity of our community in Siggiewi and beyond, and improve its social impact through scouting.
